The warm season - filled with desire and expectation
Every year it comes, and every year it goes yet again
But in the brief expanse of time when it resides among us
Life begins anew with a breath of summer air.
The only time when the world moves on at its own whim
In the season of warmth and prosperity, passion and peace
All other seasons either point to its arrival or mourn its going
Summer stands alone in time
Unconsumed by the frivolous beauty of Spring
Or the tragedy of Autumn
After a year of waiting, silently watching,
The joy of comfort returns at last
And life can rejoice in the glorious splendor
That fills the world with the songs of birds
But oh the great facade! The dangerous trap!
The front of Summer
That one should believe its well-crafted lies
Ignored is the promise of the death about to come
Though it is plain to see, life is cruelly deceived
Into thinking that it should carry on indefinitely

I have this idea in my head to write a set of four classical songs based on the seasons. It's a bit overdone, I know, but the seasons have always been a great source of inspiration for me, as well as nature in general. I want to do something that reflects who I am, and I think this is one way for me to do it. However, since this theme is covered so often, I wanted to step it up a notch, so they're going to be vocal pieces. Hence I have lyrics.
I work better on lyrics when I write them as a poem, as opposed to writing them with the music. I'll go back later and turn it into a song. (After I get through my new music theory book!) In the meantime, I figured I'd release the poem and see what you all think of it.
