Literature Text

She walked amid the golden trees,
Lit with the fires of the waning sun.
The world did not concern her;
She turned her back on its whims.

Dancing sprightly down the leaf-strewn path
She toyed at my mind.
I stood there on the road and watched,
Watched as she pranced away from me.

But what could I do?
It had been decided;
We could not be together,
Lest we tear each other apart.

So in agony I raised my eyes to the sky,
To the God that had gifted me with her,
Only to take her away again.

It could have been worse.
We could have grown bitter;
We could have hated each other.
At least we had learned from each other,
And grown in life.

Yet it was too much to stand and watch
As she drifted away like the last coil
Of smoke from an extinguished candle,
Never to burn again, not in my eyes.

So I raised my voice in song,
Gave up out of myself a great Theme
The likes of which had never been Heard.

And she turned to look at me,
One last time
Before she disappeared
Into the depths of the rising mist.

And since that day,
I have sat and waited
On the dusty road,
Ever watching, ever hoping,
"Maybe one day she will come back to me."

But always in my heart I knew
I would never see her again
But in the memories she had left with me.

And so as I sat, I rehearsed in my mind
A new song. It rose and fell like
The depths of my soul.

She walked amid the golden trees,
Lit with the fires of the waning sun.
As she disappeared into the dusk,
A single star shone above,
Bright and unwavering.
Steadfast, always watching over me.
I meant to submit this poem a while ago, but it got buried in my desktop. Now that I've finally managed to reorganize, I figured it would be a good time to upload it.

The poem is partly inspired from life, but largely fictional. Enjoy.
