O Avúlia!

It brings joy to my heart that you are well.  I am saddened that our first contact has been marred by the darkness.  I heed your word of the Mortals; you perceive them as harmless.  I wonder if you have given thought to the events that would occur if the Mortals seized the power of the darkness and turned as one to destroy us, the Asténter.  The ants, as you called them, have grown to immense numbers.  Is it not possible that, if they banded together with themselves and the darkness, they could defeat us?

I brought this news before the great Council of the Asténter, and I relay the synopsis to you now:

Lumía, the Great Council Master, has led the Asténter through many battles which brought an age of peace to all.  This you know, for you took part in the Great War as did we all.  But, since you have left for the Mortal realm, the peace never once was challenged.  Lumía has led the Council into complacency, and will not accept my word as truth.  He dismissed my case without a thought.  Worse, he threatened me should I ever bring it to him again.

My sister Aewaean, with whom you had a close friendship before you left, takes pleasure in all growing things, even as I do in light.  When she consulted the floral messengers that serve her freely, she discovered the truth of my words.  A handful of her beloved subjects have succumbed to the darkness, ensnaring the weary traveler through the woods.  This news brought her great sadness, so that she could bear it no longer.  My sister brought her sorrow before Lumía, and he became greatly displeased with us for "disrupting the peace."  Only one other, my friend and ally Marnin, stood with us at that time.

What I mean to tell you, O Avúlia, is that we three have been exiled from the halls of the Asténter.  Aewaean of the growing things, Marnin of the resting waters, and I of the light.  We travel now to your domain.

Do you believe that Lumía acted out of complacency, or could the alternative be possible?  Could the darkness have taken him as well?  If so, how many of the Asténter have not been tainted?  How are we to clear this forest of deeply-rooted darkness?  There must be some way to save ourselves, and our subjects from this great, spreading darkness.

I pray you know my meaning when I say this, but could the darkness, could it be rooted in Him?  I cannot say more, for it may draw His attention.  Could He have breached the Hall in which He was imprisoned?  O Avúlia, who knows much, do you know this?

I have received word from one of the Ailan, They who we Made Like Ourselves, that the once-dormant fires of Oudhara have been relit.  If it proves true, we could be in a deeper mire than we had thought.   Even as I send this to you, I send for my most trusted Ailan advisors.  Perhaps with all of us, we may sort out a solution to our problem.

Send word to me soon, that I may know some of what you know, O Avúlia!  Prepare for us to reach you in a fourth-month.

The leaves have fallen, the trees are bare.  The Sun sets.
