[Untitled] Fifth LetterAí Avúlia!

We are a few days' journey from your abode.  We have had to disguise ourselves from the Mortals, who have taken to the darkness.  My dear sister Aewaean was shot in the leg by one of their foul arrows.  The wound has healed somewhat now, but she grows ever weaker; her star fades….  I fear the arrow was poisoned.  We know nothing of poison, and hope that you do.  She cannot walk on her own; Marnin and I carry her.  It makes our progress slow.  Please help her.

Just yesterday I received word from Iamin, the son of the Lord of the Ailan.  I have enclosed the letter.

What worrisome news you bring before me!  I never did care for that straight-laced foal, Lumía, or his installation as council head, but to think!  He has banished you three in light of what's happening.  I feel I must apologize to you, for it was I who suggested you bring this matter before the council.  Why did I not foresee this?  One does not simply rouse sleeping children from their beds.  The children will toss and fight, grasping for more of their pleasant dreams.

It falls to those who have stayed awake in vigil to contend with the thief upon the house.  Though I fear that thief has already stolen his way inside.  I w

It brings joy to my heart that you are well.  I am saddened that our first contact has been marred by the darkness.  I heed your word of the Mortals; you perceive them as harmless.  I wonder if you have given thought to the events that would occur if the Mortals seized the power of the darkness and turned as one to destroy us, the Asténter.  The ants, as you called them, have grown to immense numbers.  Is it not possible that, if they banded together with themselves and the darkness, they could defeat us?

I brought this news before the great Council of the Asténter, and I relay the synopsis to you now:

Your letter finds me in good health as I hope mine finds you.  It has been many years since I set forth from the shining halls of the Asténter with thirst for the knowledge that could only be quenched by witnessing for myself what lies beyond.  Here I remain in the land of the Mortals; my cup of knowledge has become half full, but it is also half empty.

But what I have learned is thus:  Do not trouble yourself on the habits of the Mortals.  They are as ants to us, destructive only to themselves, respawning quickly – they are harmless.

This particular sunrise looks exactly like the cover of Warriors: Sunset, doesn't it? This photo was taken outside my house.
